The Snake River winds its way from Western Wyoming through Idaho to its confluence with the Columbia River in Washington. In Grand Teton National Park, one of the river's crescent-shaped meanders forms a picturesque scene, reflecting Mt. Moran and the Northern end of the Teton range in its slow moving waters. Oxbow Bend is popular destination for visitors to the Tetons throughout the year, particularly in Fall when the Aspens along the river begin to turn their beautiful shades of color.
On this October morning, the Aspens along Oxbow Bend glow under the warm, early light with Mt. Moran and the Teton range looming in the stormy distance.

Mt. Baker - Artist Point, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, Washington
Mt. Baker's glacier covered summit glows in the early morning sun. Snowshoeing up to Artist Point on the edge of the Mt. Baker Wilderness the day before, we were enveloped in clouds and falling snow. With less than 100 yards of visibility, we didn't have a good idea of our surrounds. Fresh snow fell overnight and we woke to blue skies and stunning views of Mt. Baker and the North Cascades.

Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming (2013)
The Teton range rises up from a fog-filled valley on a crisp fall morning. This dramatic mountain range began to form around 13 million years ago as the the two blocks along the north-south running Teton fault shifted vertically. The Jackson basin block on the eastern side moved down while the western side rose skyward forming the youngest range in the Rockies.

T.A. Moulton barn - Morman Row, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming (2014)
Morman homesteaders sent from the Salt Lake Valley to establish new communities to support a growing population, arrived in the Teton Valley near the end of the 19th century. These settlers grouped their farms in the relatively fertile area east of Blacktail Butte to share labor and community, a location known today as “Morman Row.” The iconic barn pictured here was built in the early 1900s by Thomas Alma (T.A.) Moulton to shelter his horses from the harsh Teton winters.

Dense fog in the early morning begins to burn off as the sun rises, unveiling Mt. Moran and setting the vibrant fall foliage at Oxbow Bend ablaze. Breaking the glass-like surface of the bend, a cormorant returns for a breath of air after an underwater hunt in the first moments of the day.
